Three West Michigan Nonprofits Join Forces on May 5, 2020 to Give Back to Those in Need

Three West Michigan Nonprofits Join Forces on May 5, 2020 to Give Back to Those in Need. Join #GivingTuesdayNow in a Global Day of Giving and Unity

West Michigan, April 27, 2020 –   Hunt 2 Heal, Family Hope Foundation and Grant Me Hope are joining forces to make a difference to those with physical disabilities, foster children and children with special needs on May 5, 2020.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.

“We’ve decided to join forces to make a stand that we are all in this together and need to continue to work together in order to make the world a better place” states Carson Nyenhuis, founder of Hunt 2 Heal.

Jane Eppard from Family Hope Foundation adds, “We will be sharing stories of hope and giving in the days leading up to May 5th on our social media platforms and hope to see much support from our community. All non-profits are struggling right now but our missions are still strong and our services much needed.”

About Hunt 2 Heal

Hunt 2 Heal is a new non-profit organization working to build an outdoor haven designed for those with physical disabilities. We are creating hunting and outdoor fun for those that need it most.  Our mission isto provide a safe & comfortable environment where people with disabilities can experience the outdoor pursuits they once enjoyed to improve mental and spiritual health.

About Family Hope Foundation

Family Hope Foundation is an established non-profit organization providing resources, activities, support, and funding for therapies to families of children with special needs in West Michigan. Those needs may be physical, emotional, or developmental. Our premise is simple: each child deserves the chance to reach their highest potential. Children with special needs can grow, change, learn, connect and be happy members of their family. They can succeed – if the community nurtures their abilities and creates an atmosphere for success.

About Grant Me Hope

With 600,000 children in the foster care system and over 100,000 available for adoption, Grant Me Hope found out that 25% end up homeless when they age out at 18 years of age.  Their goal is to change that statistic and find these children loving adoptive homes.  They produce TV News worthy videos of the children and air them on partnering TV News stations, locally airing them on WZZM Channel 13 in Grand Rapids and on TCT TV.  Their goal is to take this marketing initiative nationwide and currently are airing children in Michigan, Ohio and soon Mississippi.  They also try to educate America about the plight of foster children and recruit more loving foster families, because the need is so great.

CARES Act Expands Charitable Giving Tax Benefits

Not long ago we were thinking ahead to our first fall hunts, breaking ground on the lodge and exciting events to kick off the program. While the COVID-19 crisis has delayed some of our plans, the plans are still in place and we are eager to get them rolling again. It will be more important than ever to get people back into the outdoors once we can safely do so.

For those of you that might have been considering a donation to help us fund our efforts, now is a great time to do so if your situation and means allow for it. There are some important new tax incentives as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) of which you should be aware.

Effectively there are 3 changes.

  1. Taxpayers who don’t itemize can get up to $300 charitable deduction of monetary gifts in addition to the standard deduction.

  2. Limitations are lifted on charitable contributions by individuals who itemize from 60% of adjusted gross income to 100% of adjusted gross income. They may also choose to carry forward any unused deductions for up to five years. (Donations to donor-advised-funds would not qualify.)

  3. If you are over age 70 1/2 you may still benefit greatly from tax-free Qualified Charitable Distributions from your IRA.  (Up to a maximum of $100,000.)

  4. Corporations can gift 25% of their income instead of 10% of their income. Donations in excess of 25% may be deducted in the following 5 years.

Please help us give the gift of freedom and independence to those that it would impact greatly and need it most. Make a difference with a donation today!

We recommend consulting with your financial and tax advisors for your individual situation. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you wish to speak to us about your gift. You may contact Kim Monks at 616-610-0252 or kim@hunt2heal.org.
